About the Role

Amazon is hiring a Software Development Engineer II (SDE II) to join the Sourcing Performance team within Supply Chain Optimization Technologies (SCOT). This team builds and operates mission-critical systems responsible for purchase order creation, vendor performance measurement, and supply chain optimization at massive scale.

Amazon orders over 10 billion items annually, and every procurement decision requires precise financial, operational, and performance-driven logic. The Sourcing Performance team owns the software that enables these decisions and ensures vendors and internal teams meet Amazon’s high operational standards.

This is a high-impact role for engineers looking to grow their careers in software developer jobs focused on distributed systems, cloud architecture, and large-scale data-driven platforms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop distributed software systems in an AWS cloud environment

  • Build and maintain services responsible for purchase order generation and vendor performance tracking

  • Enhance internal and external web portals used by thousands of vendors and Amazon employees

  • Write unit, integration, and end-to-end tests

  • Implement monitoring, alarms, and operational dashboards

  • Perform root cause analysis on production issues and defects

  • Collaborate closely with product managers, technical leaders, and engineering teams

  • Gain deep domain knowledge of Amazon’s supply chain and procurement workflows

  • Contribute to the invention of next-generation sourcing and supply chain services

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

  • 2+ years of system design or architecture experience (scalability, reliability, design patterns)

  • Proficiency in at least one programming language

  • Experience across the full software development lifecycle:

    • Coding standards

    • Code reviews

    • Source control

    • Build and deployment pipelines

    • Testing and operations

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Experience using Generative AI tools to improve or accelerate software development

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent

  • Experience building highly available and scalable cloud services

  • Experience with containerized environments

  • Strong data-layer experience:

    • Relational databases

    • NoSQL systems

    • Distributed search technologies

  • Ability to write and debug complex data queries

  • Experience building AI agents for customer support or business process automation

  • Business-oriented mindset with exposure to procurement or accounting systems
