Key Responsibilities

• Inspect, test, and repair cable signals and associated telecommunications equipment
• Inspect trunking systems and switching network components
• Install, maintain, and repair aerial and underground transmission systems
• Install electromechanical, analog, and digital trunking systems in central offices and switching centres
• Operate computerized testing systems to perform service tests on customer lines
• Connect, disconnect, and relocate cable outlets
• Install cable modems and configure software for internet access
• Complete and maintain accurate test and service reports
• Inspect the operation of telecommunications equipment to ensure system reliability
• Determine daily work assignments and priorities

Job Requirements

• College, CEGEP, or other non-university certificate or diploma (1–2 years)
• 2 to less than 3 years of telecommunications experience
• Communication Electrician Trade Certification
• Strong understanding of telecommunication systems and service testing
• Valid driver’s licence (vehicle provided by employer)
